So Over It

I had enough! I gained over 20 lbs since my Hashi diagnosis and I wasn’t able to get it off.  I wasn’t working out like I had been because of the extreme fatigue I was experiencing. Since working with a Functional Medicine Doctor my nutrition was better than ever. The weight wasn’t budging and it really didn’t make a whole lot of sense.

At first, I looked into other alternatives to help lose the weight.  I tried a few things like Berberine and over the counter diet pills. None of it was working!  I was so frustrated!

Introduction

A friend of mine came to see me at my salon and she was looking and I could tell she was feeling pretty awesome as well. Being in the fitness/nutrition field for half of my adulthood I am always curious about what others are doing. I was floored when she said she was giving herself an injection.  WHAT?!?! You gotta be kidding me?  I could never!  I cringe when I have to do anything with needles! I was very happy for her but there was NO WAY in hell that I was going to do that.

Breaking Point

A few more months went by and I was still in the same place.  Not working out, believe me I tried but the same thing happened every time, for 3 days I felt like I got hit by a car. Eating a very clean diet. With the exception of when I would eat my feelings because I was so frustrated. I was trying, but being frustrated every single day since nothing was working was really taking a toll.

My curiosity grew as I started seeing reels on instagram from people who were using Semaglutide. I was shocked at how many people were seeing great results. It was very exiting!  The side effects did bother me a bit. I was, and still am, worried about what happens when I decide to discontinue it. I’m also NOT pro pharma! I don’t trust what they have to offer.AND not to mention I was still VERY VERY concerned about poking myself with a needle.

I finally decided to ask my Functional Medicine doctor what his opinion was regarding this new found weight loss miracle. He wasn’t particularly excited about going this route so he offered a different solution.  Unfortunately, this solution was a DAILY injection. As I’ve previously stated, I’m not a fan of needles and I was worried about doing semaglutide once a week. There’s no way I’d be comfortable with doing an injection every single day.  FART THAT!!!

After talking with him and learning more and more about GLP-1’s I was really starting to see more benefits to it than just weight loss.  Sure I wanted the 20lbs I gained GONE but I was really starting to feel ok about this injection business.

A friend recommended Dr. Tyna episode on GLP-1’s and their benefits.  I listened to the whole series 2 times.  It was exactly what I needed to make the leap.  Now to find out how to get it.

Fart it!

I was online ordering my b12 injections.  Oh yeah, did I mention that I wasn’t absorbing b12 in pill form so I had to do injections now. Yep, that was really what made me think “well, shit..if I have to do this b12 business I can do this weight loss shot.”  Anyhoo, I was online ordering that from my compounding pharmacy and I saw a blurb about semaglutide.  I didn’t know they offered that but hell I’ll do a consultation and see if I can get on the train.

I Qualified! Barely

You have to have a BMI over 27 to qualify. I was at 28. I got a message back from the provider saying I barely qualified but they would go ahead and let me slide.  I was ready!  I didn’t care anymore.  I had been getting b12 injections and Glutathione infusions (another story) for a while now and I was starting to be alright ish with needles.

To be continued…..

And that’s how and why I got started.  I’m excited to share my journey with you as I have lost 20lbs since starting in July 2024.  Please shoot me a message if you have any questions.  I’m happy to chat with you!
